BODEGAS ALCOVI

Bodega Alcovi, a family project located in Almedíjar, in the heart of the Sierra de Espadán Natural Park in Castellón. Here, we work with passion, commitment, and absolute respect for our natural surroundings, choosing organic viticulture and artisanal winemaking from the very beginning.

Beginnings of the project (2005)

In 2005, we began this project with the goal of reviving the winemaking tradition of the area, which had almost completely disappeared after phylloxera. We started from scratch, with a deep understanding of the land, the inland Mediterranean climate, and the grape varieties that best adapt to this mountainous and dry environment.

First vinifications and growth (2009)

In 2009, we took an important step by moving to newer, more modern facilities. That was when we released our first bottles: Alcovi Red, Alcovi White, and Señorío de Almedíjar. Since then, we have continued to grow and innovate, always maintaining an artisanal approach.

Commitment to wine tourism and new product lines (2014–2017)

In 2014, we began opening the doors of the winery to the public. We incorporated wine tourism as an essential part of the project, offering guided tours, tastings, and pairings that allow visitors to experience our work up close. That same year, we introduced the Rodeno line, and between 2015 and 2017, we developed the Alma de Espadán range, composed of single-varietal wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Monastrell.

Signature wine for the tenth anniversary (2019)

In 2019, we celebrated our tenth anniversary with a special edition: Señorío de Almedíjar Selección, a signature wine aged for 24 months in barrel, produced exclusively in exceptional years. This wine reflects the journey we’ve taken and our evolution as a winery.

Vineyard and work philosophy

We currently work around 8 hectares of our own dry-farmed vineyard, divided into small plots that are difficult to mechanize. This is why all our harvesting is done manually, typically around the second week of September. The varieties we cultivate include Cabernet Sauvignon, Monastrell, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, as well as traditional grapes such as Castellana and Planta Fina.

We apply rigorous organic farming, without herbicides or chemical products. In the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with temperature control, and for aging we use French and American oak barrels. Bottling is done by hand, using natural cork stoppers sourced from the cork oak trees in the park.

Awards and recognitions

Our wines have been recognized in various national competitions, such as the Real Casino de Madrid, where we have received silver medals for Alma de Espadán Cabernet and Señorío de Almedíjar. We have also been awarded at the Mostra Proava, especially for Alcovi White and our single-varietal wines.
